With BS7 emission norms, renewed EV incentives, and a sharp premiumisation trend, more than 25 new motorcycles — from commuters to superbikes and electric hypers — are lined up for launch.
Industry projections from Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers indicate total two-wheeler volumes nearing 20 million units annually, while EV motorcycles are expected to capture around 10% market share over the next cycle.
Policy Push Behind the Boom
- BS7 emission regulations under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways will phase out older carbureted platforms and push fuel injection, onboard diagnostics, and cleaner engines.
- FAME-III subsidies, administered by the Ministry of Heavy Industries, are expected to offer incentives of up to ₹5,000 per kWh for electric two-wheelers.
- OEMs are also leveraging PLI schemes to localise engines, electronics, and EV components.
