Next-Gen Hyundai Creta & New Hybrid SUVs Coming by 2027

Hyundai is preparing one of its most aggressive product offensives for the Indian market, and hybrid technology will play a major role in this strategy. A series of new models — including the next-generation Creta, an all-new three-row premium SUV, and even the possibility of a Palisade Hybrid — are being evaluated for launch between 2027 and 2028, marking a major shift in Hyundai’s long-term electrification roadmap for India.

Palisade Hybrid Being Considered for India

The biggest development comes from the top of Hyundai’s global SUV portfolio. The brand is internally studying whether the Palisade Hybrid can be adapted and positioned for the Indian market.

Globally, the Palisade Hybrid uses a 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with an electric motor, producing around 334 hp and 460 Nm. Despite its massive dimensions and full-size SUV footprint, the hybrid powertrain reportedly delivers over 14 kmpl, making it surprisingly efficient for its class.

If green-lit, the Palisade Hybrid could be introduced in India as early as 2028, or potentially a little earlier depending on localisation studies and pricing plans. A full-size hybrid SUV from Hyundai would allow the brand to compete in a premium segment currently dominated by Toyota’s strong-hybrid strategy.

Next-Generation Creta Under Development

At the other end of the spectrum, Hyundai has already begun background work on the next-generation Creta, internally codenamed SX3. This model is expected to be a core volume driver for his well into the next decade, so the company is taking a comprehensive approach.

What to Expect from the New Creta (Around 2027):

  • A brand-new platform with improved rigidity and refinement
  • Sharper design language and more mature proportions
  • A completely redesigned interior, likely with a tech-forward dashboard
  • Continuation of the 1.5-litre engine lineup — petrol, turbo-petrol, and diesel

However, the major upgrade will be the introduction of a full hybrid powertrain based on the existing 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. This marks the first time Hyundai is developing a proper hybrid setup for its highest-selling model in India.

With Maruti–Toyota dominating the mainstream hybrid space, it is preparing its response — and the next-gen Creta Hybrid could be that turning point.

The Creta EV facelift, on the other hand, is expected only after the new ICE Creta arrives, putting both milestones somewhere around 2027.

A New Three-Row Hybrid SUV (Ni1i) in the Works

Another major addition to Hyundai’s future lineup will be an all-new three-row SUV, rumoured internally under the codename Ni1i.

Positioning:

  • Will slot between the Alcazar and the discontinued Tucson
  • Fills a product gap that has existed in SUV hierarchy for years
  • Likely to target families wanting more space without entering luxury territory

Expected Powertrain:

The model is expected to feature a hybrid-ready 1.5-litre petrol engine, giving Hyundai another strong contender in the growing hybrid SUV market.

Launch timelines point to 2027, aligning with broader hybrid strategy for India.

Hyundai’s Upcoming EV & ICE Roadmap

The company recently introduced the new-generation Venue, starting at ₹7.89 lakh (ex-showroom). This update signals that Hyundai’s compact portfolio is undergoing major renewal.

Looking ahead to 2026, Hyundai is also working on a compact electric SUV based on the global Inster EV. The India-spec version will be heavily localised, which will allow Hyundai to price it competitively and export it to multiple international markets.

A Larger Strategy to Strengthen Market Share

India’s second-largest carmaker, is gearing up for an aggressive expansion phase. With Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, and Mahindra rapidly scaling their EV and hybrid operations, Hyundai’s strategy is clear:

  • Introduce multiple hybrid SUVs across price brackets
  • Grow its EV footprint with affordable and premium options
  • Strengthen its presence in the high-margin SUV segments
  • Localise production to ensure competitive pricing

By the end of this decade, Hyundai aims to significantly widen its portfolio, reduce dependence on diesels, and position itself as a hybrid-plus-electric leader in India.
