Upcoming Electric Two-Wheelers in India: Ather, Ultraviolette & Royal Enfield Prepare Big EV Push

India’s electric two-wheeler market is entering a completely new phase in 2026. Until now, electric mobility in the country has been dominated largely by scooters focused on affordability and city commuting. However, the next wave of launches is expected to change the segment dramatically as brands like Ather Energy, Ultraviolette Automotive, and Royal Enfield prepare an aggressive lineup of futuristic electric two-wheelers. From premium electric motorcycles to family-focused scooters and adventure-oriented EVs, manufacturers are now targeting multiple segments simultaneously as demand for electric mobility continues growing rapidly across India.

One of the most anticipated upcoming launches is the new affordable electric scooter from Ather Energy. The Bengaluru-based EV company is reportedly working on a more family-oriented electric scooter based on its new EL platform. Unlike Ather’s current sporty and premium-focused scooters, the upcoming model is expected to focus more on practicality, comfort, storage space, and affordability.

Reports suggest the upcoming Ather Electric Two-Wheeler scooter may support multiple battery pack options ranging from 2 kWh to 5 kWh while offering a claimed range of up to 261 km in higher variants. The scooter is also expected to carry advanced technology features including a TFT touchscreen, navigation, ride analytics, blind-spot monitoring, collision alerts, and even integrated radar systems. This upcoming model could become one of Ather’s most important launches because it will likely target a much broader audience than the company’s existing premium scooters.

Meanwhile, Ultraviolette is preparing to expand beyond performance electric motorcycles with the highly anticipated Ultraviolette Tesseract Electric Two-Wheeler. The company has already generated strong buzz around the scooter due to its futuristic styling and advanced technology package. The Tesseract is being positioned as one of the most technologically advanced electric scooters in India. It is expected to offer multiple battery pack options including 3.5 kWh, 5 kWh, and 6 kWh variants. Depending on the version, the claimed range could go as high as 261 km.

What makes the Tesseract especially interesting is its feature list. Ultraviolette claims the scooter will include integrated radar technology, dashcams, advanced rider assistance systems, collision alerts, and connected smart features rarely seen in this segment. The company is clearly attempting to position the Tesseract as a premium futuristic EV rather than just another commuter scooter.

Ultraviolette is also witnessing growing momentum in India’s electric motorcycle segment. The brand has already recorded strong sales growth for its F77 lineup and is now preparing additional electric motorcycles and crossover-style EVs for the future. However, one of the biggest stories in India’s upcoming EV market is undoubtedly Royal Enfield’s entry into electric mobility. The iconic motorcycle brand is preparing multiple Electric Two-Wheeler motorcycles under its new Flying Flea sub-brand.

Royal Enfield recently revealed the Flying Flea C6 electric motorcycle, inspired by the lightweight military motorcycles used during World War II. The bike represents a major shift for the company as it enters the EV segment while still retaining its retro design identity. The Flying Flea C6 is expected to offer an IDC-certified range of around 154 km, a top speed of 115 km/h, and modern connected features including smartphone connectivity and OTA updates. Royal Enfield is also offering the motorcycle through a Battery-as-a-Service model to improve affordability.

Alongside the C6, Royal Enfield is also preparing the Electric Two-Wheeler Flying Flea S6, a scrambler-style electric motorcycle aimed at urban riding and light off-road usage. The S6 is expected to feature wire-spoke wheels, longer suspension travel, and more rugged styling compared to the commuter-focused C6. The company is additionally developing the much-awaited Royal Enfield Himalayan Electric, currently referred to internally as the Him-E. Spy shots and showcase appearances have already confirmed that the electric adventure motorcycle is under active development.

The Himalayan Electric is expected to become one of the most ambitious electric motorcycles from an Indian manufacturer. Reports suggest it could feature a large battery pack, long-range touring capability, and advanced off-road-focused engineering. The motorcycle is likely to retain the rugged adventure-oriented design language of the standard Himalayan while introducing a completely electric drivetrain.

Royal Enfield’s EV strategy is particularly interesting because the company is avoiding the budget commuter EV space entirely. Instead, it is targeting premium buyers looking for design, performance, and lifestyle appeal. The next two years could therefore become a turning point for India’s electric two-wheeler industry. Earlier EV growth was heavily dependent on affordable scooters, but manufacturers are now rapidly expanding into premium motorcycles, adventure bikes, scramblers, and technology-focused electric scooters.

This shift is important because Indian buyers are increasingly looking beyond just running costs. Design, connected technology, performance, riding experience, and premium features are becoming major purchase factors in the EV market. Government incentives, improving charging infrastructure, rising fuel prices, and increasing consumer awareness are also accelerating EV adoption across India. Analysts expect electric two-wheelers to account for a significantly larger share of total two-wheeler sales over the next few years. The upcoming launches from Ather, Ultraviolette, and Royal Enfield show that India’s EV market is no longer limited to basic commuting solutions. The industry is now entering a much more exciting phase where electric two-wheelers are becoming aspirational lifestyle products as well.
