Renault-Nissan Alliance Launches 10 New Sub-4 Meter SUVs in India: Bridger, Kiger & Magnite CNG Details Inside!

Published by: Motor Mitra Editorial Team

The sub-four-metre SUV segment is currently driving the maximum volume and growth in the Indian automotive market. Striking a perfect balance between localized pricing, generous cabin space, and an imposing road presence, these compact vehicles are highly coveted by Indian buyers. To completely capture this demand, the Renault-Nissan Alliance is preparing a massive product onslaught, confirming the launch of 10 new sub-four-metre options over the next few years. Instead of introducing ten completely distinct nameplates, the alliance is smartly rolling out multiple powertrain derivatives across three core products: the brand-new Bridger, the Kiger, and the Nissan Magnite.

Motor Mitra Take: This multi-powertrain offensive shows a massive strategic pivot. Renault is implementing its ‘FutuReady’ strategy in India, aiming to compress vehicle development cycles down to just two years—matching the rapid turnaround benchmark often referred to as “China speed.”

1. The All-New Renault Bridger Portfolio (5 Models)

Scheduled to debut in late 2027, the Bridger is arguably one of the most critical product launches for Renault India. The compact SUV will be based on the highly flexible RGMP (Renault Global Modular Platform), which is a localized derivation of the Alliance’s global CMF-B architecture. Being a highly adaptable multi-energy platform, it will seamlessly host petrol, CNG, hybrid, and fully electric powertrains.

A. Pure Petrol & Performance Turbo

The standard internal combustion petrol engine line-up will feature two distinct 4-cylinder options:

  • 1.2L Naturally Aspirated MPFi Petrol: Tuned purely for everyday fuel efficiency and urban city commutes, generating close to 90 hp.
  • 1.2L Turbocharged Petrol: Aimed directly at driving enthusiasts. This engine is a down-stroked derivative of the new Duster’s 1.3L turbo engine, optimized to slide under the 1200cc tax bracket while putting out an impressive 120 hp and up to 220 Nm of peak torque.

B. Factory-Fitted Dual-Cylinder CNG

Given the rising demand for economical fuels, the Bridger will feature a factory-fitted dual-cylinder CNG system paired with the 1.2L MPFi engine. By placing twin interconnected smaller cylinders underneath the vehicle floorboard, it has managed to preserve usable boot space. This variant will produce around 100 hp in CNG mode and is expected to deliver a high fuel efficiency of 30+ km/kg.

C. Advanced Strong Hybrid

It is also introducing a strong hybrid variant of the Bridger. It will utilize a brand-new 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder hybrid engine engineered by Horse Powertrains. Running on the highly efficient Miller cycle, the system draws heavy inspiration from AVL’s H12 hybrid concept to offer best-in-class fuel economy in stop-and-go traffic.

D. The Bridger EV (Tata Nexon.EV Rival)

An all-electric version of the Bridger is slated to arrive in early 2028. Coming with a front-wheel-drive layout, the SUV is expected to offer two battery pack configurations: a 35 kWh pack with a 300 km range, and a premium 55 kWh pack promising an impressive 500 km range on a single charge. It will support DC fast charging, variable regenerative braking, and V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) power supply capabilities.

2. Nissan’s Badge-Engineered Counterparts (4 Models)

A major cornerstone of Nissan’s India comeback strategy relies on rolling out badge-engineered versions of the Bridger platform, following a similar path to the upcoming Nissan Tekton (which is derived from the new Duster). Nissan will introduce its own versions powered by all four major powertrain streams: Pure Petrol (NA/Turbo), Factory CNG, Strong Hybrid, and Electric. While the engineering, platform, and mechanical outputs will remain identical to the Bridger, the exterior panels and interior layouts will completely align with Nissan’s global SUV design language.

3. Upgraded Kiger & Magnite: Intelligent Floor-Mounted CNG (2 Models)

Currently, both the Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite only offer dealer-level retrofitted CNG kits. To change this, both vehicles will soon transition to the advanced RGEP (Renault Group Entry Platform). This major mechanical upgrade enables both manufacturers to offer factory-fitted CNG systems out-of-the-box. Just like the Bridger, the CNG tanks will be integrated under the vehicle’s rear underbody to maintain a highly practical, uncompromised boot space for weekend luggage.
