The Indian motorcycling landscape is undergoing a massive shift as enthusiasts move beyond basic commuters toward high-performance machines, making the twin cylinder engine the new gold standard for power and refinement. Previously, owning a multi-cylinder bike was a luxury reserved for the elite, but a new wave of local manufacturing and global partnerships is finally bringing twin cylinder performance within reach of the average rider. From highway cruising to track racing, these upcoming 15 motorcycles are set to redefine the “affordable” segment, offering the perfect blend of soul, character, and high-speed stability.

Previously, owning a multi-cylinder bike was a luxury reserved for the elite, with price tags often exceeding the 6-8 lakh mark. But things are changing. Manufacturers are now leveraging local production and global partnerships to bring down costs. Here is a comprehensive look at the 15 most anticipated affordable twin-cylinder motorcycles set to hit Indian shores, as highlighted in recent industry reports.

1. The BMW & TVS 450cc Powerhouse

The collaboration between BMW Motorrad and TVS Motor Company has already proven successful with the 310 series. Now, they are scaling up to a new 450cc parallel-twin cylinder platform that promises to redefine the entry-level premium segment.

BMW F450 GS (Sport & Standard)

The F450 GS is designed for those who find the 310 GS too small but the 850 GS too intimidating. The new Sport variant, which sits between the Exclusive and Trophy trims, offers specialized Enduro footpegs, handguards, and a sport suspension setup. By manufacturing these in India, BMW aims to offer a “Big GS” experience at a fraction of the cost.

BMW 450 R & 450 RR

Following the GS, BMW will likely introduce a roadster (450 R) and a fully-faired sports bike (450 RR). The 450 R will replace the aging G 310 R, featuring a twin-cylinder engine producing roughly 48 bhp and 43 Nm of torque. The 450 RR will take styling cues from the legendary S 1000 RR, offering high-performance aerodynamics for the track-day enthusiast.

TVS 450 Adventure & Sports

TVS isn’t just a manufacturing partner; they will use this same 450cc engine for their own flagship products. Expected to be positioned above the recently launched Apache series, these bikes will offer similar performance but with TVS’s signature feature-rich approach (SmartXonnect, ride modes, etc.) at an even more competitive price point.

2. KTM’s Middleweight Mastery: The 490 Series

KTM has long dominated the single-cylinder performance market with the Duke 390. To bridge the massive gap between the 390 and the 790/890 series, KTM is developing an all- new 490cc parallel-twin range.

The 490 Trifecta:

  • KTM 490 Duke: A street naked with aggressive styling and 60 PS of power.
  • KTM RC 490: A faired supersport with MotoGP-inspired winglets and race ergonomics.
  • KTM 490 Adventure: A touring-capable machine with long-travel suspension and spoke wheels.

3. Royal Enfield’s 650 & 750 Hegemony

Royal Enfield currently owns the affordable twin-cylinder segment in India. Their strategy for
the next 24 months involves both refreshing their current 650cc lineup and introducing a
bigger 750cc platform.

The 650cc Refreshes

The Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 are due for facelifts. Expect LED lighting, improved seat comfort, updated suspension tuning, and perhaps the long-awaited alloy wheels as standard on more variants. Additionally, the Bullet 650 is under development, bringing the iconic “Bullet” silhouette to the 650cc twin platform.

The New 750cc Platform

Royal Enfield is working on a “bored-out” version of the current 650 engine to create a 750cc powerhouse. The Himalayan 750 is the most anticipated of the lot. It will be a proper heavy- duty adventure tourer capable of sustained triple-digit speeds on highways. Following the Himalayan, we expect an Interceptor 750 and a Continental GT 750, offering more torque and a more “relaxed” cruising experience than the 650s.

4. Aprilia

After the massive success of the RS 457, Aprilia is looking to expand its “Made in India” portfolio. The Aprilia Tuareg 457 is the logical next step. It will use the same parallel-twinengine from the RS 457 but tuned for off-road duties. With a 21-inch front wheel and rally- inspired aesthetics, it will be a direct competitor to the upcoming KTM 490 Adventure and theHimalayan 450/750.

The arrival of these 15 motorcycles signifies more than just new choices. As these bikes enter the market, we will see a significant increase in interstate touring, track-day participation, and organized off-road events. The “affordable” nature of these twin-cylinder machines—likely priced between INR 3.5 lakh to 5.5 lakh—makes high-performance motorcycling accessible to the middle-class enthusiast.
