Upcoming CNG Cars in India: A New Chapter for Affordable Driving
India’s car market is once again moving towards CNG in a big way. Rising fuel prices, increasing daily commuting costs, and demand for lower running expenses are pushing buyers toward factory-fitted CNG vehicles. But unlike older CNG cars that focused only on mileage, the next generation of models is expected to offer premium features, SUV styling, better practicality, and improved performance.
Several manufacturers including Renault, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, and Nissan are preparing new CNG vehicles for India. From compact SUVs to practical family cars, the upcoming lineup could completely change how Indian buyers look at affordable mobility.
Renault Triber CNG

Renault is expected to introduce a factory-fitted CNG version of the Triber, targeting family buyers looking for low running costs with 7-seat practicality. The company may use dual-cylinder technology to improve luggage space, which has become a major concern in traditional CNG cars.
The Triber CNG is likely to use a 1.0-litre petrol engine paired with a manual gearbox. Mileage figures could cross 23 km/kg, making it one of the most practical budget MPVs in the segment.

Tata Curvv iCNG

Tata Motors completely shook up the industry by introducing the world’s first turbo-petrol CNG setup in the Nexon. Now, they are ready to replicate that massive success with their highly popular coupe-SUV, the Tata Curvv.
Expected to launch by late 2026 at an estimated price range of ₹11.00 Lakh – ₹13.00 Lakh, the Curvv CNG will bring a perfect blend of performance and utility. It will feature Tata’s signature Twin-Cylinder Technology, which safely tucks the tanks under the luggage floor to leave the boot space completely usable for family road trips. Under the hood, it will be powered by a refined 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that is precisely tuned to offer punchy, lag-free performance even when running purely on gas.

Hyundai Bayon CNG

Hyundai may bring the Bayon crossover SUV to India with a factory-fitted CNG option. The Bayon features sporty European-inspired styling and could target younger buyers looking for a premium yet economical SUV.
The model is expected to receive Hyundai’s twin-cylinder CNG technology along with premium cabin features, connected technology, and a modern dashboard layout. Power is likely to come from a 1.2-litre petrol engine.

Renault Duster CNG

The Renault Duster is finally preparing for a return to India, and reports suggest a CNG version could also arrive later. Unlike most affordable CNG cars, the Duster may focus on combining performance with efficiency.
The SUV is expected to feature a turbo-petrol engine paired with a factory-fitted CNG setup. If launched, this could become one of the few turbocharged CNG SUVs in the Indian market.
The new Duster is also expected to offer rugged styling, modern interiors, larger dimensions, and improved highway performance.

Nissan Tekton CNG

Nissan is also preparing a new SUV for India called the Tekton. The model is expected to share its platform with the Renault Duster and may eventually receive a CNG variant as well.
The SUV will likely focus on affordability, practicality, and SUV styling while targeting buyers looking for lower ownership costs. Nissan may aggressively price the Tekton to compete against Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors, and Renault.
Why CNG Cars Are Becoming Popular Again
CNG cars are witnessing strong demand because buyers now want vehicles that offer lower running costs without sacrificing comfort and features. Modern CNG technology has evolved significantly over the years.
Manufacturers are now offering:
- Better boot space through dual-cylinder setups
- Improved engine refinement
- Factory-fitted safety systems
- Premium interiors
- Better mileage figures
- SUV body styles
This shift is helping CNG vehicles move beyond just entry-level hatchbacks.
India’s upcoming CNG cars could completely redefine affordable driving over the next few years. Buyers will soon have access to practical MPVs, compact SUVs, and even turbocharged SUVs with factory-fitted CNG technology.
From the practical Renault Triber to the premium Hyundai Bayon and rugged Renault Duster, manufacturers are now treating CNG Cars as a mainstream fuel option rather than just a budget alternative.
As fuel prices continue rising, the next wave of CNG vehicles could become one of the biggest trends in the Indian automobile market.
