Ducati Monster Gets A Massive Upgrade – 4kg Lighter, 111 PS, Monocoque Frame & Rs 13.99 Lakh

Ducati has launched the fifth-generation Ducati Monster in India at a starting price of Rs 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom), bringing a major mechanical and technological overhaul to one of the brand’s most iconic naked motorcycles. The new-generation model gets an 890cc V2 engine, revised chassis architecture, lighter construction, updated electronics and sharper styling. With 111 PS of power and a 4kg weight reduction, Ducati has focused on making the Monster more agile without moving away from its everyday-friendly character.

The new Monster weighs 175 kg with the fuel tank empty, making it 4 kg lighter than the previous generation. It continues with an aluminium monocoque frame, while the new V2 engine acts as a stressed structural component. The result is a motorcycle that combines lower weight, compact proportions and a more modern electronics package with the familiar Monster design language.

Ducati Monster Price Starts At Rs 13.99 Lakh

The standard Ducati Monster starts at Rs 13.99 lakh, ex-showroom, in Ducati Red. Iceberg White and Sport Livery versions are priced higher, while the Monster+ starts at Rs 14.34 lakh and adds a headlight cowl and passenger-seat cover.

The new-generation model continues to occupy Ducati’s premium naked-bike space, but its biggest appeal lies in the balance between performance and usability. Instead of simply chasing a higher power figure, Ducati has concentrated on reducing weight, improving ergonomics and broadening the motorcycle’s electronic and mechanical capabilities.

New 890cc V2 Engine Produces 111 PS

The biggest mechanical change is the new 890cc V2 engine with IVT, or Intake Variable Timing. It produces 111 PS at 9,000 rpm and 91.1 Nm of peak torque at 7,250 rpm, giving the Monster a strong performance character while maintaining a broad usable powerband. The new engine replaces the previous-generation 937cc Testastretta unit.

Ducati says more than 80% of maximum torque is available between 4,000 rpm and 10,000 rpm, which should give the motorcycle strong response across a wide range of riding conditions. The IVT system is designed to balance smoothness at lower revs, stronger mid-range performance and higher-rpm power, making the V2 suitable for both everyday riding and more enthusiastic runs. The new engine is also significantly lighter, contributing to the overall weight-saving strategy. Ducati says the V2 is 5.9 kg lighter than the previous Testastretta Evoluzione engine, helping the latest Monster achieve a lower overall mass without sacrificing its performance-focused character.

4kg Weight Reduction Makes The Monster More Agile

The new Monster weighs 175 kg without fuel, which is 4 kg less than the previous generation. On a performance naked motorcycle, reducing mass can have a meaningful effect on steering response, braking, acceleration feel and low-speed manoeuvrability. This weight saving comes from several areas rather than a single component. The lighter V2 engine, aluminium monocoque frame and revised chassis architecture work together to keep the motorcycle compact and relatively light. Ducati has therefore focused on improving the complete riding package instead of relying only on engine output.

The lower mass should also complement the Monster’s compact dimensions. For riders who regularly use the motorcycle in cities as well as on winding roads, the combination of lighter weight and a responsive V2 engine could be one of the bike’s biggest advantages.

Monocoque Frame And Panigale-Inspired Chassis

The aluminium monocoque frame remains one of the most distinctive technical elements of the new Monster. The V2 engine forms a stressed part of the chassis, allowing Ducati to maintain a compact structure while controlling weight. This layout also helps create the Monster’s characteristic agile and direct handling.

The motorcycle gets a double-sided swingarm inspired by the Panigale V4’s Hollow Symmetrical Swingarm, along with a 43mm Showa upside-down fork and Showa monoshock. Braking hardware includes twin 320mm front discs with Brembo M4.32 radial calipers, while Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres measure 120/70 at the front and 180/55 at the rear. The chassis has also been tuned with everyday usability in mind. Ducati says the suspension has been calibrated to balance comfort during regular road use with sportier behaviour on mixed roads, giving the Monster a wider range of riding applications.

Advanced Electronics And 5-Inch TFT Display

The new Monster gets a comprehensive electronics package controlled by a 6-axis IMU. It includes cornering ABS, Ducati Traction Control, Ducati Wheelie Control, Engine Brake Control and Ducati Quick Shift 2.0. These systems allow the motorcycle to manage its performance more effectively across different road and riding conditions.

Four riding modes — Sport, Road, Urban and Wet — are available, allowing the rider to alter the motorcycle’s character depending on the situation. The new 5-inch full-TFT display has a 16:9 aspect ratio and provides a modern interface for the motorcycle’s various functions, while Ducati also offers multimedia and turn-by-turn navigation compatibility. The electronics are particularly important because the Monster is designed to be approachable as well as fast. Instead of making the motorcycle dependent on rider skill alone, the electronic package helps manage traction, braking, wheel lift and engine braking when required.

Sharper Design Retains The Monster’s Identity

Despite the extensive mechanical changes, Ducati has retained the core visual character that has defined the Monster since its original debut in 1992. The latest motorcycle continues with the muscular bison-back fuel tank, compact tail and minimalist naked-bike proportions, but the surfaces and lighting have been redesigned for a sharper modern appearance.

The front gets a full-LED headlamp with DRL and Ducati’s latest lighting signature, while the narrower seat and revised side panels give the motorcycle a more compact visual stance. The standard seat height is now 815mm, 5mm lower than before, while accessory options can reduce the height further to around 775mm.

The riding position has also been revised, with the handlebars positioned to provide a balance between control during spirited riding and comfort during longer everyday use. This reinforces Ducati’s aim of making the latest Monster easier to live with without diluting its sporty character.

New Ducati Monster Is More Than A Simple Facelift

The fifth-generation Ducati Monster brings meaningful changes across almost every major area. The 890cc V2 engine, 111 PS output, 4kg weight reduction, aluminium monocoque frame, upgraded chassis hardware and comprehensive electronics package give it a substantially revised mechanical identity. At Rs 13.99 lakh, the new Monster enters India’s premium naked-bike market with a strong combination of performance and technology. The standard model starts at Rs 13.99 lakh, while the Monster+ adds extra styling equipment at a higher price, giving buyers another option within the range.

The biggest attraction, however, is the way these upgrades work together. Ducati has not simply increased performance; it has made the Monster lighter, more compact, more technologically advanced and easier to manage, while preserving the design cues that made the nameplate famous. For riders looking for a premium naked motorcycle that combines 111 PS, lightweight handling, sophisticated chassis hardware and Ducati’s unmistakable character, the new Monster represents one of the most substantial updates to the iconic nameplate in years.
