MG Starlight 560 PHEV & EV SUV To Offer 1,000+ Km Range
JSW-backed MG Motor India is firing on all cylinders to disrupt the mid-size and premium SUV segments in India. After gaining significant traction with the Windsor EV, the carmaker is now preparing to introduce a highly advanced, larger 3-row utility vehicle based on the globally acclaimed Wuling Starlight 560 (internationally showcased as the Wuling Eksion).
Recent design patents officially registered in India and heavily camouflaged test mules spotted near Vadodara confirm that the MG Starlight 560 is nearing its production-ready stage. Positioned as a direct technological threat to the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, and Hyundai Alcazar, this premium family SUV will bring massive electrification—offered in both Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) and Battery Electric Vehicle (EV) formats.
1. Design & Dimensions: Imposing Stance with 3-Row Versatility
The MG Starlight 560 adopts a bold, boxy, and upright design language that looks premium yet strictly practical.
- The Front Fascia: The patented design features an aggressive upright nose with a massive blacked-out grille layout. It features a modern split-LED headlamp setup with distinct horizontal LED DRL strips flowing right above and below the main light housing.
- The Side Profile & Rear: Moving to the side, the SUV gets squared-off wheel arches, a sharp high bonnet line, and premium 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels wrapped in 215/55 section tires. The rear features an MPV-like vertical tailgate, crisp LED tail lamps, a roof-mounted spoiler, and a rugged silver skid plate on the rear bumper.
- Cabin Configuration: Spanning 4,745 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,755 mm in height, the Starlight 560 boasts a massive 2,810 mm wheelbase (longer than the Mahindra XUV700). This enables MG to easily offer the SUV in both 5-seater and premium 3-row (7-seater) configurations, making it a perfect match for large families.

2. Inside the Cabin: Tech-Loaded Minimalistic Luxury
True to MG’s philosophy, the interior of the Starlight 560 is an absolute digital paradise. The dashboard sports a clean, button-free layout that feels incredibly premium:
- Massive Touchscreen: Taking center stage is a high-resolution 12.8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment setup that controls almost all vehicle operations, including dual-zone climate controls and navigation.
- Digital Cockpit: The driver gets a sleek 8.8-inch fully digital instrument cluster paired with an ergonomic two-spoke multi-function steering wheel.
- Premium Comforts: Expected features include a massive panoramic sunroof, high-quality leatherette upholstery, ventilated front seats, dedicated rear AC vents for all three rows, connected car tech, and an immersive 6-speaker premium audio system.
3. The Big Highlight: Game-Changing Powertrain Options
While global markets get standard internal combustion engines, JSW MG Motor India will strictly focus on green energy by launching the PHEV and EV variants first.
A. The Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) Version
The PHEV version is designed to completely eliminate range anxiety while delivering diesel-crushing fuel efficiency.
- The Engine Setup: It pairs a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (producing 104 hp / 130 Nm) with a high-performance electric motor mounted on the front axle.
- Total Output: Together, the system develops a combined 194.3 bhp and 230 Nm of peak torque, pushing the heavy SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in a swift 9.7 seconds up to a top speed of 170 km/h.
- Battery & Total Range: It packs a highly efficient 20.5 kWh LFP battery pack, allowing for up to 100 km of pure electric-only driving range for daily city office commutes. When combined with a full tank of petrol, the total hybrid range easily crosses the 1,000 km mark, targeting an equivalent mileage figure close to 40-50 km/l!
B. The Pure Electric (EV) Version
For buyers looking to go completely green, the pure EV model shares its robust mechanical genetics with the Windsor EV.
- The Motor: It features a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 134 bhp and 200 Nm of instant torque.
- Battery Pack: Equipped with a 56.7 kWh battery pack, it is projected to deliver a highly practical real-world driving range of around 400 to 450 km per charge. It will support advanced DC fast charging, variable multi-mode regenerative braking, and V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) power output.

4. Estimated India Price & Launch Timeline
According to industry insiders and data from CarLelo, the MG Starlight 560 is slated for an official festive season launch in India around October 2026.
Thanks to high levels of localized manufacturing at MG’s Halol facility in Gujarat, the pricing is going to be incredibly aggressive:
- PHEV Variants: Expected to start at a highly disruptive entry price of ₹19 Lakh to ₹22 Lakh (ex-showroom).
- Top-Spec EV/PHEV Trim Levels: Premium trims equipped with Level 2 ADAS and 7-seat configurations are estimated to scale up to ₹25 Lakh to ₹28 Lakh (ex-showroom).
